Day Old Chicks

Permit Required

For importation of Biosecurity regulated products (Animal Products), importer needs to have a valid Biosecurity Approved Premises (BAP). Our trade and compliance team (tfc@baf.com.fj) will assist you in obtaining your BAP.


Import conditions prior to arrival in Fiji


A BAF import permit is required.


Day Old Chicks must meet biosecurity requirements.


To demonstrate compliance with this requirement you must present the following on a Health certificate:

1. All importation of poultry and poultry products must be from a country that can satisfy the Veterinary Administration of Fiji that it is free of Newcastle Disease [ND] and does not have Avian Paramyxovirus 1 [APV1] with an Intracerebral Pathogenicity Index [ICI] equal to or greater than 0.7 in the commercial poultry sector.


2. New Zealand is free from Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza and Newcastle Disease.


3. The day-old chicks/hatching eggs originate from parent flocks that have been kept in New Zealand since hatching.


4. The day-old chicks/hatching eggs originate from parent flocks that are free from Fowl Typhoid (Salmonella Gallinarum), Pullorum Disease (Salmonella Pullorum) and Infectious Bursal Disease.


5. The flocks of origin from which the day-old chick/hatching eggs originate have not been vaccinated against the following diseases; Newcastle Disease, Avian Influenza, Infectious Bursal Disease and Salmonella Pullorum.


6. The day-old chicks/hatching eggs originate from parent flocks that were tested negative for Salmonella Enteritidis within the ninety (90) days prior to export.


7. The flocks of origin have been regularly inspected by an authorized veterinarian and found to be free from signs of infectious or contagious disease.


8. All containers/boxes and packaging used to ship the day-old chicks/hatching eggs are new and clean.
