Peanut
For importation of Biosecurity regulated products (Plants or its products), importer needs to have a valid Biosecurity Approved Premises (BAP) prior to its importation. Our trade and compliance team (tfc@baf.com.fj) will assist you in obtaining your BAP.
Import permit conditions are to be met prior to the shipment of the consignment.
A BAF import permit is required for its clearance in Fiji and the following are the import permit conditions:
IMPORTANT � Importers should note that if the conditions below are not strictly observed, delivery of the plant matter listed in this permit may be refused:
(1) The importation is subject to inspection on arrival and must be found to be free from any evidence of disease or insect infestation of any kind and from soil or other plant matter, including seeds, not listed in the permit.
(2) The importation must be accompanied by original Phytosanitary Certificate issued by a recognized agricultural or biosecurity authority of the country of origin, which shall certify that the commodity is believed to be free from all forms of disease or insect infestations.
(3) The consignment must be packed in clean new packages /bags not previously used for any purpose and must not be packed in hay, straw, chaff, etc. nor any decomposing material.
(4) Any non-compliance to any of the above conditions will result in revocation of the import permit and destruction of the imported commodity and other action taken as directed by the Biosecurity Authority of Fiji all at the importers expense.
Specific Import permit Requirements:
[1.] An Import Permit must be obtained from the Biosecurity Authority of Fiji on each consignment basis. The import permit must be valid at the time the goods are imported into Fiji. Note that an approved import permit must be obtained in advance before the goods are loaded for shipping.
[2.] The consignment will be subject to inspection on arrival by Biosecurity Officers at the port of discharge in Fiji. The consignment of peanuts must be free of contaminants such as soil, insects, weeds, seeds or any other extraneous material other than the intended consignment and any treatment to be considered necessary.
[3.] All costs incurred in the treatment or re-export of the consignment will be borne by the importer.
[4.] Each consignment of peanut must be packed and shipped in clean, new packaging.
[5.] An original Phytosanitary certificate must accompany each consignment and to be presented to a Biosecurity officer when clearing the peanuts at the port of entry in Fiji.
[6.] The importer must inform the Biosecurity Authority Fiji of the arrival details of the peanut 7 days prior to the consignment arriving in Fiji to allow the facilitation of the necessary inspection arrangements.
[7.] The Biosecurity officers of Biosecurity Authority of Fiji will have free access to the storage area and the processing premises for inspection, checking and auditing as required.
[8.] All imported peanuts to be kept in well secured premises and to be used for processing purposes only at the approved premises.
[9.] Records of peanut importation and processing to be maintained by the importer to ensure all imported peanut is accounted for. Records of importation and processing returns to be provided to the Biosecurity Authority of Fiji on a fortnightly basis or when required.
[10.] If at any time there is danger from any spread of pest and diseases from the imported peanut, the area/premises will be treated and all imported peanuts will be destroyed as directed by Biosecurity Authority of Fiji. The importer will bear all expenses in this regard. Biosecurity Authority of Fiji will not be liable for any compensation/claims and does not accept any responsibility in this respect.
[11.] Should the requirements and responsibilities of these conditions are not fulfilled, Biosecurity Authority of Fiji will instruct the consignment to be confiscated, re-shipped or destroyed at the importers expense.
