Potting Mix
For importation of Biosecurity regulated products (Plants or its products), importer needs to have a valid Biosecurity Approved Premises (BAP) prior to its importation. Our trade and compliance team (tfc@baf.com.fj) will assist you in obtaining your BAP.
Import permit conditions are to be met prior to the shipment of the consignment.
A BAF import permit is required for its clearance in Fiji and the following are the import permit conditions:
IMPORTANT � Importers should note that if the conditions below are not strictly observed, delivery of the plant matter listed in this permit may be refused:
(1) The importation is subject to inspection on arrival and must be found to be free from any evidence of disease or insect infestation of any kind and from soil or other plant matter, including seeds, not listed in the permit.
(2) The importation must be accompanied by original Phytosanitary Certificate issued by a recognized agricultural or biosecurity authority of the country of origin, which shall certify that the commodity is believed to be free from all forms of disease or insect infestations.
(3) The consignment must be packed in clean new packages /bags not previously used for any purpose and must not be packed in hay, straw, chaff, etc. nor any decomposing material.
(4) Any non-compliance to any of the above conditions will result in revocation of the import permit and destruction of the imported commodity and other action taken as directed by the Biosecurity Authority of Fiji all at the importers expense.
Specific Import permit Requirements:
1. The consignment must be accompanied by the following original documents:
1.1. Import permit No: SUV-19056.25
1.2. Manufacturer�s/Processor�s Declaration of each products together with its flow chart that includes specifications (time, temperature etc.)
2. All growing medium must be free of contaminants such as any weed seeds, plant debris, insects and insect parts.
3. All growing medium must be sterilized or pasteurized at international standards and packed by a reputable company with a manufacturer�s declaration.
4. The consignment must be fumigated with methyl bromide (CH3Br) gas at the rate of 48gms/m� for 24 hours at 21�C OR at the rate of 64gms/m� for 24 hours at 10�C or above before loading on the ship/aircraft and this treatment to be clearly endorsed on the official Australia Government phytosanitary certificate.
5. The importer must inform BAF in writing of the arrival details of the potting mix on email: plantimports@baf.com.fj 48hours prior to the consignment arrives in Fiji so that necessary inspection arrangements can be facilitated.
6. The consignment must be accompanied by an original phytosanitary certificate endorsed by the NPPO of the exporting country certifying that the material is free of any insects and disease infestation.
7. The consignment will be inspected by the BAF at the port of entry and may be subject to additional treatment and requirements as determined by the Biosecurity Authority of Fiji.
8. All expenses including biosecurity inspection fee charges, allowances will be borne by the importer.
9. Any non-compliance of the above conditions will result in the revocation of the import permit and destruction of the imported consignments will be at the importer expenses.
10. As condition change and scientific facts become available, the Biosecurity Authority of Fiji shall amend either by inclusion of Quarantine Prohibitions, restrictions or removal of conditions found to be unnecessary.
